The holidays are quickly approaching, you may be thinking about travelling or preparing to host the holidays, but either way you'll soon be surrounded by all your grandchildren. They will be craving your attention especially if they haven't seen you for a while. It is always so busy during the holiday season that it is difficult to find the time to just sit down and play, however, that is exactly what your grandchildren are counting on! They are looking forward to playing games, helping with the holiday baking and creating some special memories together.
Take a break from the cookie baking and the shopping and sit down and spend some quality time with your grandchildren. Creating a storybook or memory book of your time together is a great activity for you to do with all your grandchildren. In their book they can write about what is special about the holidays; activities they like to do with their grandparents or they can create their own adventure story! This is a great way for children to practice their handwriting, spelling and creative writing without thinking about it. Don't forget to have them illustrate each page. This can be done through various mediums and could be different depending on the age of the child. Stickers, pencil crayons, stamps, and watercolours are just some ideas to get you started.
Each child can create their own memory book or you can have everyone do a number of pages and then bind them all together. All ages of children will have fun creating this unique holiday book. Don't be surprised if mid-year your grandchildren start asking you if you are going to do it again this year. They have amazing memories and they will come to the table ready to recreate the fun they had last year with their grandparent!
Grand Tip:
Snack Essentials
Be sure to have lots of fun and nutritional snacks like cereal, yogurt and cut-up fruits and veggies on hand. Also, snacks that you can make together are a great way to make memories. Add peanut butter to celery sticks and top with raisins to make "ants on a log" or if allergies are a concern, try making personal mini pizzas from English muffins, tomato sauce and favourite pizza fixings. Crackers and cheese or popcorn are great movie time snack options. Foods are easily associated with memories, so make sure theyre fun!
